Life: August

*Written throughout August, whenever I had a spare moment, the brain power and urge to write. Ah August. The month of cold, windy days - the winds of change that herald the coming of spring. The month that saw work days lengthen and evolve (oh hello new yoga classes), a toddler discover his love of… Continue reading Life: August

Edinburgh: the windy city

Another one from the archives. This time from when Steve and I spent a week travelling from Manchester to Edinburgh. It was my second time to Scotland, but Steve, despite having lived in London had never explored north. There were coy pubs and cold days spent walking, live music and football games. Excellent. First published… Continue reading Edinburgh: the windy city

Life: July

It's been a lovely winter. One drenched in the mellow yellow sunshine that is particularly Brisbane-esque, market trips and great reads. Slow days spent at home pottering in the garden, writing during naps or attempting to study or practice yoga while simultaneously being forced to give horse rides to an exuberant toddler. But, and it… Continue reading Life: July

You know the feeling when a dear friend is about to introduce you to their significant other – you're one part supportive, one part "I'll come after you if you hurt them". Yeah that was me when my friend Julia introduced me to her then-girlfriend, Chris. But it took only minutes before Chris's bubbly, sunshiney… Continue reading Well brewed women: Chris Eva

Relishing this sunset while I water the garden and enjoy some post work day fresh air. 🍂 This morning Jman and I crept out into the 6am stillness to check on the plants before the craziness to get out the door started. A slight chill greeted us and he promptly exclaimed it was cold. Really really cold. We then cuddled back in bed for a few minutes, me meditating because #mamanurture and him chatting to his toys. 🍂 But the memory of the chill remained and was a reminder autumn is nearly here and I'm not sure how I feel about it. However, feeling the heat of the day recede while the grass crunches underfoot and the smell of damp soil is around you is pretty fantastic, so I'll just go with it. Enjoy summer while it's here, and gorge on hot cross buns when it's slightly more seasonally appropriate. 🍂
That just woken up, blissed out post-facial-about-to-dive-into-a-raspeberry-leaf-and-chamomile-tea face. In the past few years I've begun asking for vouchers as presents rather than things. Vouchers for things I love but normally do myself - facials are quite high up on that list. Steve delivered and today I had a facial before wandering to my favourite bookstore/cafe @riverbendbooks and finishing up with a spice stock up @thesourcebulkfoodsbulimba A nap to round out the day. I know the whole giving a small piece of paper can seem... meh in the moment. But the experience the other person gets is what matters - and is normally awesome. Also yes, that's a sleeping child reflected in my great grandmother's wardrobe mirror. And yes he's responsible for all those fingerprints and smudges . Also I really dislike selfies so okbye.
Steve always gets the long stems that I then have to cut drastically to fit into my grandmother's vase. It's become our tradition. Blooms enjoyed with a side of @brisbanelibraries earth & garden magazine while bolognese simmers on the stove, because Jman has been demanding pasta every night this week. 🍝 Bolognese recipe is my variation of @heidiapples recipe (less meat, a bit more veg and lentils) but I highly recommend it in any form.
Magical beach mornings ⭐
Starting my morning here with half an hour of @yogaglo prenatal yoga. For the first time in 2 years Jman decided to wake before 6am and, coming at the tail end of a busy work week for me, and midway through an even busier one for Steve, let's say it was less than appreciated. But I'm a pretty firm believer in the "you can't pour from an empty cup" motto, so yoga and a giant cup of tea it is, alongside a planned trip to the park and library to help rejuvenate (and co-parent), and a midday yoga nidra before I crack open the laptop. Happy Friday peeps.
There is wisdom in these pages. 🌕 I devoured so many pregnancy books the last time around. Anything that taught me about what was happening to my body was cracked open. Scientific facts about what would happen during birth were also ok, but anything to do with postpartum was left on the shelf. I had bigger fish to fry. 🌕 This time, I like to think I know a teensy bit better. I'm trusting in my body and it's ability to grow and birth a child, so it's empowering birth stories and restful fourth trimesters that have me fired up rather than facts about the baby being as big as <insert vegetable> this week. I should also say many cookbooks are being flicked through to help stock our freezer for those early days too because I'm a convert to #mealsoveronesies as baby presents. 🌕 And, being aware that I won't need to return to many of these books once the fourth trimester is finished, the majority are library copies from either my birth centre or my local library. Because that's also how I roll. 🌕 What birthing books did you love?
